Meeting with Andrew Mitchell, Shadow Secretary of State for International Development, at Danlers in Bumpers Farm, and then on to BBC Wiltshire for a live radio debate

Today I was delighted to welcome Andrew Mitchell, Shadow Secretary of State for International Development to Chippenham. Together we visited Danlers, who make energy saving, lighting controls. Located on Bumpers Farm they have recently won the Queen’s Award for innovation.

The visit was of particular interest to Andrew Mitchell who spoke at the Overseas Development Institute at the end of 2009 about the threat of climate change and need for companies and individuals to move towards a low carbon economy. Danlers is a business that helps others achieve just that, their installations have been shown to reduce the total electricity bill of their clients by up to 20%.
I was delighted to see such an innovative company here in Chippenham. Not only do they create jobs for local people they also can help companies and families alike reduce their fuel bills. This example of reducing energy bills by 20% clearly shows how efficiency savings could be made in public buildings so reducing public sector expenditure.

After catching up with the team it was off to BBC Radio Wiltshire in Swindon for a live radio debate. I hope you heard it – if not you can get a flavour of what I stand for with my minute manifesto, which you can hear by clicking below

An open letter from Jane Scott OBE, Leader of Wiltshire Council, regarding Liberal Democrat Literature

An open letter from Jane Scott OBE, Leader of Wiltshire Council, regarding Liberal Democrat Literature

(The views reflected on this page do not neccessarily reflect the those of Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones)

______________________________________________

“I understand that during your campaigning, you have been telling your audiences that the number of houses to be built in Chippenham, and their location, has been determined by the Conservative administration in Wiltshire council.

We are all aware that Liberal Democrat candidates, at election times, distort policy, ignore facts and become economical with the truth, but I am surprised that you have sunk to this level of deceit.

You know perfectly well that the proposed number of houses to be built in Chippenham is a requirement of the present government and that the council has not yet given their recommendation as to the locality in which they will be built. You also know, from your attendance at council meetings, that we have consulted with residents and, following their submissions, intend to consult further before any proposal is put forward for public inspection. And you also know that the whole exercise will be abolished in the event of a Conservative government following the election and greater power given to local authorities and local residents in these matters.

Perhaps in these last days of electioneering, you will adopt a policy of greater integrity and stick to facts rather than fiction and discontinue misleading the public for personal gain.”

Bird's Marsh, RISE, tree planting and a hustings were all on my agenda for today

Today I have been busy making change happen in our community. It was a pleasure to welcome Caroline Spelman, Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to Chippenham. We visited RISE and met the team who do such excellent work supporting local people.

We then went on to Bird’s Marsh where I was delighted to share the news from Wiltshire Council that there is to be further consultation before any decisions to build on Bird’s Marsh are taken. I am delighted to have been able to help the situation and ensure that people in Chippenham are listened to.

After visiting Lackham College, I went on to help plant trees at Fitzmaurice Primary School, in Bradford on Avon as part of the Trees for Schools project in conjunction with Mark Wilkinson furniture.

The evening was then spent at St Andrew’s Church, Chippenham for a hustings event where again, I made sure the audience got to ask the questions!

Thank you to all the volunteers out today helping across the constituency.

Today has again taken me across the constituency: Melksham, Paxcroft Mead, Bradford on Avon and Corsham.

I met Andrew Murrison over lunch to highlight the location of the new boundary in Paxcroft Mead to try and clarify any confusion caused in last week’s Wiltshire Times.

I was also delighted to receive the update from Jane Scott, Leader of Wiltshire Council, that further consultation will be carried out before decisions on building new homes around Chippenham are taken. If elected, I will be able to work even closer with the Council to ensure my constituents’ views are listened to.

Over to Bradford on Avon to the Fairplanet Festival at Wiltshire Music Centre which was a super event. My team helped unload some bongo drums, but unfortunately we had to leave before I heard them being played. And it was a very cultural morning in Bradford on Avon as we then visited the International Festival at St Margaret’s Hall – another superb event and then around the town to meet some more people.

The afternoon we canvassed Melksham as well as visited the town centre – thank you to all my helpers today!

Yet another beautiful day to be in Wiltshire. Today we were out and about in Monkton Farleigh, Melksham and Hilperton, and the new boundary changes was something that popped up a lot

Yet another beautiful day to be in Wiltshire. Thank you to all the teams out delivering this morning. This morning I have been pounding pavements in Monkton Farleigh, where it was a great pleasure to meet up with Andrew Murrison MP – thank you for your support. Later in the afternoon we went out in Melksham and then onto Hilperton.

From a number of conversations on doorsteps tonight it was clear that there is still much concern over the boundary changes. The decision to amend boundaries is taken by the Boundary Commission, and it is a decision that was taken several years ago. I recognise that my potential constituents have been very well served by their MPs and if elected I intend to follow in their footsteps. During the last three years whilst I have been living in Chippenham I have kept myself up to date with important issues affecting what will become the new Chippenham constituency.

If you are unsure which constituency your property is in, a map is available here

Another beautiful day in Wiltshire and first stop was BBC Radio Wiltshire in Swindon to record my Minute Manifesto. Back in the constituency I headed to Lacock for some canvassing.

The afternoon we were canvassing in South Wraxall and were very encouraged by the positive support on the door. At 5 o’clock I was out at Bumpers Farm talking to local people on their way home from work. Then at 6 o’clock we started canvassing in Cepen Park with members of the Conservative National Volunteer Team – thank you very much for coming!

Its been a pleasure to meet so many of the local people I hope to represent shortly in Westminster, and if I haven’t met you yet, I hope our paths will cross soon.

It is time for change in Britain, time for a new government at Westminster, time for strength and representation for the people of Chippenham and the surrounding towns and villages.

Voting for any candidate other than myself in this General Election risks another 5 years of Gordon Brown at Westminster – the Liberal Democrats will not get enough seats to form a government and if they win here, it is one less seat for David Cameron to form a majority with.

I am not a career politician and will bring a fresh perspective to Westminster. My experience in business and life, means I am now at a point to give back to my community here in Wiltshire. Now the campaign has started you will be able to find me out even more around Chippenham and the surrounding towns and villages – please watch this website for details when he is near you and do come and say hello and ask questions or if you would like to get involved with the campaign please email wilfred4change@gmail.com
