Please help spread a little festive cheer to those less fortunate this Christmas by giving food donations to a local scheme. The Melksham Food Bank would like people to donate foodstuffs to help vulnerable members of our community.

The Melksham Food Bank, run by volunteers from the Churches in Melksham, provides practical short-term help to people in need, including a food parcel containing sufficient food basics for three days. Organisers are appealing for food donations of tins, pasta sugar and tea from the local community to help those who need it most.

UK’s households waste 25% of all food they buy. At this time of year particularly it is easy to over shop, and end up having to throw away extra food.

Calculating how much each person can eat over the festive period will help reduce waste. There are great recipes using leftovers which can again help reduce food waste – as well as saving you money. If you do buy extra and find you don’t need it, why not donate it to a local charity such as the Melksham Food Bank, where it can make a real difference.

Food waste has a negative impact on the environment as well as our pockets, not to mention depriving the millions of people who are hungry at this time who would enjoy the food we choose to waste. I hope that the Melksham Food Bank is able to collect a large amount of tins to help people over the festive period.

To make a donation to the Melksham Food Bank call 07851 016027
