Campaign Day Seventeen – Lots of Thank Yous

Today started early with a big turnout at the Job Club. Thank you to Karin McCann from Dyson for coming to speak and to the team at CMD for all their help setting it up. I am delighted that whatever happens on May 6^th this initiative will continue to benefit people looking for work in Chippenham.

Lord King then joined me for a town centre walkabout in Chippenham – it was great to meet so many supporters. So a big thank you to Lord King for his continued support.

Lots of thank yous today – a big thanks to the team from Devizes for coming up with their candidate Claire Perry canvassing in Monkton Park.

After the evening canvassing in Katherine Park, it was home to watch a fascinating debate, which saw David Cameron win on the big foreign policy issues and start to highlight the problems that would be associated with a hung parliament.

Campaign Day Sixteen – Get Wiltshire Working

I was as delighted as I am sure many stranded constituents were that the air space reopened and, on another sunny day in Wiltshire, I enjoyed meeting people in Winsley, Westwood and Pewsham.

My morning was spent with Councillor Linda Conley who is working very hard behind the scenes to ensure 20 is plenty is tested in Limpley Stoke.

I also spent time preparing for my second Job Club meeting. This is part of the “Get Britain Working” campaign and already running in Chippenham.

We will introduce a single, comprehensive Work Programme to get Britain working again, which will be up and running by the end of 2010. As part of our Work Programme, we will offer unprecedented support to all those who are looking for work. If you can’t work and need to be paid Incapacity Benefit then we will give you the financial support to which you are entitled, and if you can work, and you actively look for work, we will give you unprecedented help to find a good job.

But you must keep to your side of the bargain. We will make sure that you are claiming the right benefits and, within six months of taking office, we will introduce new sanctions for anyone who refuses to look for work.

Its time for change to keep Wiltshire’s economic recovery on track.

Campaign Day Nine – The Manifesto

I am delighted and excited by yesterday’s manifesto, and have heard lots of positive response on doorsteps today about it. I particularly support encouraging new entrepreneurs, and helping the unemployed back to work – my own Job Club meets again at CMD Recruitment, Chippenham on Thursday 22^nd April, 9am where I will be speaking alongside a representative from Dyson HR Department.

I started canvassing in Chippenham this morning before meeting with Conservative Future who helped this afternoon in Chippenham, before heading back to Hilperton.

Chippenham Job Club launch a success

Thank you to Dom Rosato and the team at CMD Recruitment in Chippenham for making the launch of the Chippenham Job Club such a success. It was good to meet with everyone who came along and I hope it was useful for everyone involved.

I am looking to set up a Job Club in Chippenham to help anyone in the constituency currently looking for work. A Job Club is a group of anywhere between 2 and 30 people who get together on a regular basis to support each other through the job hunting process. It enables members to expand their network of contacts whilst also acting as a support group. 30% of people who lose their job find a new one through friends, family or social networks – so this may well be a great way to improve your chances of finding a new role.

I will also be arranging seminars to cover key areas such as CV writing and interview skills.
