I would like to give you my sincerest congratulations on your performance in the political debate held at Sheldon School this afternoon. Compared to the other candidates it was clear to me that you had what was best for both the constituency and the country at heart, rather than simply telling the crowd what they wanted to here. Despite being in the North Wiltshire constituency I have had many ties to Chippenham all my life and I know that Chippenham needs a sensible, straight talking MP like you, if we are to get through these next years. I wish both you and the Conservative party the best of luck in upcoming election.

I am a Liberal Democrat voter living in a neighbouring constituency but I am hoping that Wilfred does well in Chippenham. I heard him give a very inspirational speech at the Awards Evening at Sheldon School and know that children, particularly black children, need far more role models like him in industry and politics. Despite my more Lib Dem leanings I would vote for him if I lived within the constituency. Whatever the outcome I hope we can see more of Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones inspiring our young people.

Perhaps he was having an off day! Judge for yourself whether the Lib Dem candidate is capable of being an adequate MP

As the MP for Chippenham for 18 years I was looking forward with some trepidation to meeting the Lib Dem candidate when he visited a Company I chair in Melksham earlier today.
I was surprised and disappointed as were several others. He contributed almost nothing of value to the visit, said virtually nothing and stayed almost invisible throughout.
This is the second time Duncan Hames has visited the plant. He seems painfully ill informed, even disinterested in business problems.
He comes from a long stable of Lib Dem parliamentary candidates who have spent their lives attached to or working for public sector quangos. Duncan Hames was a district councillor, a consultant and then director of the SW Regional Development Agency. Now he wants to become `a full time` MP alongside his partner who is already a Lib Dem MP in Scotland!
I find it hard to see what he would do in Westminster to get Britain moving again and if he were to win it would almost certainly mean Gordon Brown remaining Prime Minister

As the former Chairman (CEO) of Fullers Brewery which has over a century’s connections with Melksham, and as a Wiltshire farmer, I am interested in what the candidates in the election can do to help business and employment.
I support the Conservative proposals to reverse the increase in NICs which is a tax on jobs and I am impressed with Wilfred Emanuel Jones’ business background and the success he has made of his life before going into politics.
I am less clear about the career of Duncan Hames his Liberal Democrat opponent. He appears to be a lapsed accountant who has spent most of his professional time over the last four years as a Director of the South West Regional Development Agency – a government quango – which in my opinion wastes more money than it delivers. I notice that the RDA spent some £50,000 over the last 3 years attending Party Conferences. How on earth the tax payer benefits from this expenditure is beyond me. I also notice since Mr. Hames stood down from the RDA the practice has stopped. Mr. Hames also claims he wants to be a full time MP if elected. I am not clear what he means by this. The House of Commons only sits about 2 days a week for less than 40 weeks a year. Whenever I turn on the TV no-one seems to be in the Chamber because they are on ‘fact finding’ tours! Most full-time backbenchers are under the thumb of the ‘Whips’ because they have no chance of gaining outside employment if they lose!
If Mr. Hames intends to spend most of his time helping his constituents, voters should be clear that he has little or no authority over local issues. Education, social services, planning, housing are all the responsibilities of the local authority. He will have no influence over the NHS or transport, so to claim that somehow he can change things is a delusional myth.
I think we have too many MPs doing too little and costing us too much. I want an MP who has business, social and political experience and has the guts to stand up for what he believes in. I know Wilfred Emanuel Jones has that. I am far from sure that his Liberal Democrat opponent has.

I write further to your campaigning letter which has been circulated recently amongst the residents of the Chippenham constituency.
I am most concerned that you appear to have deliberately misquoted a statement made by me concerning the time spent by MPs in the House of Commons on an annual basis. You have taken my statement out of its context and thus changed its meaning. My original statement was published in the local press and also in full on Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones’ website.
For the avoidance of doubt, I stated that, in my opinion, an MP is not required to attend the House of Commons on a full-time basis, five days a week, since the House of Commons only sits for about two days a week for 40 weeks of the year.
I did not state, as you have alleged publicly, that:
“the job of an MP could be done in about two days a week for less than forty weeks a year”
You have misrepresented my statement to denigrate the Conservative candidate’s stated commitment to the post (should he succeed) whilst seeking to support your personal campaign regarding your proposed full-time commitment to the role in question.
I hereby put you on notice that if you continue to publicly misquote my statements I will not hesitate to protect my position and reputation by taking urgent and appropriate legal action.
Please confirm by return, in writing, that you retract your misrepresentation of my statement and that the same or any similar misrepresentation will not be repeated in any campaigning letters or literature circulated by you.
I hereby fully reserve my rights
