Today I was delighted to welcome Andrew Mitchell, Shadow Secretary of State for International Development to Chippenham. Together we visited Danlers, who make energy saving, lighting controls. Located on Bumpers Farm they have recently won the Queen’s Award for innovation.
The visit was of particular interest to Andrew Mitchell who spoke at the Overseas Development Institute at the end of 2009 about the threat of climate change and need for companies and individuals to move towards a low carbon economy. Danlers is a business that helps others achieve just that, their installations have been shown to reduce the total electricity bill of their clients by up to 20%.
I was delighted to see such an innovative company here in Chippenham. Not only do they create jobs for local people they also can help companies and families alike reduce their fuel bills. This example of reducing energy bills by 20% clearly shows how efficiency savings could be made in public buildings so reducing public sector expenditure.
After catching up with the team it was off to BBC Radio Wiltshire in Swindon for a live radio debate. I hope you heard it – if not you can get a flavour of what I stand for with my minute manifesto, which you can hear by clicking below
